The Cathedral of St. Louis King of France commissioned this first mass for Pope John Paul II. Performed by the St. Louis Cathedral Orchestra and Choir, conducted by Dreaux Montegut, and composed by New Orleans native, Jay Weigel. The resulting work was premiered one week after Pope John Paul II’s passing and before the horrific natural disaster of hurricanes Katrina and Rita that befell New Orleans and the entire Gulf Coast region.
